Lakes

Lakes are still stealing the show with tons of lake fishing opportunities for trout and bass. Pass Lake has been pretty good lately for just about anyone heading up there. Lone Lake has been producing some good reports as well. The many lakes of E. Washington have been on fire for most of our customers. We've recently been over to the east side for bass and are having tons of fun there for largemouth up to five pounds on poppers and subsurface patterns.

Shad

Yes, that's right, shad. The Columbia is receiving loads of shad right now and we'll be heading over there in the next week to check it out. Shad run 5 to 8 pounds and are great fun on small flies and sink-tip lines with 6- to 8-weight rods. By the time you read this, we'll probably have a first hand report via Ben Zander so stop in the shop if we can help you plan your outing.

Steelhead

The Skykomish is in good shape and is producing a few summer steelhead right now. Guide, Joe Ewing, has been getting fish for his clients lately. I'll be out with Joe this next week so we'll see how it goes. Overall, however, anglers are picking up a few fish here and there and this should build into June until the river gets low and clear. Haven't heard much from the Stilly but usually around the first week of July is when it begins getting interesting.

Saltwater

Sea-run cutthroat fishing is pretty good in most areas right now. On brighter days look for some type of cover they can hide around. Pinks are supposed to show up in huge numbers this year. That should start to happen around the middle of July with the peak in the saltwater happening in August. Check out our Fly Fishing Puget Sound Beaches Class for an excellent intro into this unique fishery.
